Woot! Muse is a comin'....
|
School's almost over, three weeks to go and you;d think I'd be excited about that and maybe I am but I'm not. I think it's more surprised, it just went by too quickly but loved it nonetheless. I'm actually more excited about something else because Muse is FINALLY coming to Toronto. I've been waiting for almost three years for this day :D. I'm actually listening to this music player the www.muse.mu has up, I think it's the American/Canadian version, either way it's the first time I've heard the album in entirity and I swear I'm falling for the band. Just loving everything.
Now all I need is to get a job somewhere and life can be completely dandy.

Snow, Snow, Everywhere!!!
|
I just got in from shovelling my aunt's driveway and I swear snow was up to my theighs. It's been snowing now for almost 36 hours, and especially much more abundent in the last six hours. But this is Canada right, this is a country known for it's snow. What bothers me is the constant media attention to the fact that it is snowing. It's winter, it's supposed to snow! And we're supposed to have a lot of it!
Sorry for the sarcasum, but the news here is all over this 'story'. You come to expect this type of weather, or even worse weather, living here. I certainly know we've had worse. We know how to handle living and interacting with snow, if you live here you grow up with it.
What I'm getting at is that I'm just sick of the attention the snow is getting, it's just another example of the news media going overboard because if the news isn't talking for twenty minutes about a story that only needed maybe two minutes of exposure then it's just instilling more fear into a country that is a safe place to live. What even bothers me more is that on Global news the snow got first billing while the sotry of a Canadian soldier in Kabul was murdered today by a suicide bomber was on halfway through the show. I don't know what to make of Canadian media because it's starting to get as sensational as American news, and maybe that sells here, but for me it only makes me sick. Let's just get to the point, explain it and get out of it.

Every action has a reaction.
Withold or stunt that reaction and we don't evolve.
And the tension increases: in the air, in the universe and in the people.
It is as inevitable as gravity.
Equality is coming for us.

If you want music with a message behind it get Evolution Of Energy by S.T.U.N. I bought it shortly before Warped Tour came through here last year and by far has been the best album purchase I made yet. It's an amazing album and I highly recommend listening to 'Annihilation of Generations' and 'Chaos & Love'. It's a little more expensive to get but brilliant nonetheless. Head over here to hear some stuff by them. Enjoy :)

I still love Muse...
|
Looking back, I still LOVE Muse :D. I just wish it wouldn't cost me almost $80 CND to import Origin of Symmetry and Absolution from HMV, if I was going to though. Very happy about their soon to be performence on the Brit Awards. Yay for Much that will broadcast it, I can finally see them live on the telly. I just wish they would release a single here and then a possible tour, or just one date in Toronto. *keeps fingers crossed*
Check out Muse.mu for more goodness.

American Rhetoric
|
I just finished watching Bush's address to America, more like ultimatum to the rest of the world because quite frankly we all know it will be covered by international media. I can't help be but dismayed and sickened by how much the American government is, if anything, setting back it's own people. Maybe it's living in the shadow of an elephant all my life or just general cynicism of America that I have been brought up with, but will that country ever allow any progress? It still instills strong religious values and practices, and though some concepts may be ideal in their own ways, didn't we seperate church and the state in teh 15th Century due to corruption? The United States still fails to recognize the modernity of the world and it's people. It still segrigates and cause general and nasty biases.
As I slowly learn how American policies are distroying the world I can only help but be skeptical, and I apologize to anyone whom I may offend with this rant. I still don't see how the Bush admistration manages to stil get away with this so-called war of terrorism while it only inflicts pain on it's own people and unrest amongst the coutries it invades. It made the UN powerless, an peaceful international governing body POWERLESS. Now the American public is left with paying for the mess Bush created and turn a record surplus into a record deficit.
In the recent Adbusters it goes on to say how it's own media, with strong emphasis on Fox News, broadcasts the wrong facts. CNN has been bought out by the Bush Administration and is no longer a repuitable source of information. It has a shread of dignity left. It's tabloidish in a way. It leaves the American people misinformed and continually instilled with fear.
I could go on about the Canadian government, especially the sheep in wolf's clothing that is Mr. Paul Martin, but let me leave that for another day of frustration. I just wish that this coutry would grow its balls back and not be whipped around by America so much, or in a perfect world not at all.
Still, I can't comprehend how the U.S. manages to be such a maga power in the world when it's only setting itself up for self-distruction. Just please, do not take my country down with you.
P.S. Thank to BBC World News for the photo, though I highly doubt they know I'm using it.
